ENVIRONMENTAL MULTIPLE CHEMICAL SENSITIVITY SYNDROME

What is Environmental Syndrome Multiple Chemical Sensitivity

Over 15% of the general population has excessive response mechanisms against some chemical or environmental stimuli. In 5% of cases, these processes are clearly pathological and exceed the adaptive capacity of the organism, and generating cutaneous, respiratory, digestive and neuropsychological often chronic and persistent.

Its diagnosis must be based on clinical criteria, not only somatic. The guest QEESI (Quick Environmental Exposure and Sensitivity Inventory) identify triggers of symptoms, quantify its severity and impact of environmental chemical sensitivity on the activities of daily living.

There are 5 ITEMS accepted by most researchers as:

- It is a chronic disease.
- There multiorgan involvement.
- Symptoms are reproduced by environmental exposure or contact.
- Very low levels of exposure are sufficient to cause symptoms.
- The symptoms improve or resolve when exposure decreases (Signed: The patient improves symptoms) or ceases.

Symptomatology.

The onset of symptoms may be sudden or gradual and varied, is a real systemic disease (female predominance is greater than 80%).

Symptoms of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and Environmental:

- Malaise, fatigue, asthenia, fatigue
- Nasal discomfort, nasal itching, dryness, rhinorrhea, sneezing
- Anorexia, nausea, vomiting
- Abdominal pain or dysphagia.
- Odynophagia, dysgeusia, dry mouth
- Dizziness, vertigo, unsteadiness
- Nonproductive cough, runny or itchy throat, hoarseness or dysphonia, rhonchi, wheezing
- Ocular discomfort, tearing, conjunctivitis, irritation, blurred vision
- Dyspnea, toracalgia
- Cognitive disorders, memory loss
- Headache, temporo-spatial disorientation
- Anxiety, Panic

Environmental Control. THE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY AS A LIFESTYLE.

For a person affected SSQAM air quality is essential. The most important action is to avoid exposure to triggers, however minimal, since the lack of pathophysiologic mechanisms, add the lack of etiological treatment (the causes) so it should include the Environmental Quality as "a lifestyle.

- Improves ventilation and air renewal in residential and / or work environment.
- Control of suspended particles.
- Control of relative humidity (%).
- Control of bacteria in the environment.
- Control of fungi in the environment.
- Control of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
- Control of low frequency magnetic field. http://www.segla.net/lipoatrophy_semicircularis.htm
- Control Electric field (V / m).
- Control environments · irritants (gas, smoke).
- Psychological support.
